Tourist Visa
A tourist or visitor visa in Australia allows people to visit for a short period, typically for tourism, business visitor activities or visiting family and friends. There are different types of tourist visas available, depending on the length of stay, the nationality of the applicant and the purpose of the visit. The most common tourist visas include:
- Tourist Stream is for people visiting Australia for holidays, sightseeing, or visiting family and friends.
- Business Visitor Stream is for business-related activities such as attending a conference, negotiation or meeting.
- Sponsored Family Streamis for people who have a family member in Australia willing to sponsor their visit.
- Approved Destination Status Stream is for Chinese citizens traveling in an organized tour group.
- Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) (Subclass 601) is available for passport holders of certain countries and allows short-term visits to Australia for tourism or business.
- eVisitor Visa (Subclass 651) is available to passport holders of European Union countries and other European countries such as Switzerland and Norway.
Generally, the following conditions may apply:
- No Work (Condition 8101) where you cannot work while in Australia on a tourist visa.
- No Study for More than 3 Months(Condition 8201) where you are allowed to study or undergo training for up to 3 months.
- No Further Stay (Condition 8503) where it prevents you from applying for another visa while in Australia.
- 12 Month Stay (Condition 8558) is where you are not allowed to remain in Australia for more than 12 months within any 18-month period.
The below are main basic requirements of the visa:
- Genuine Visitor Requirementis where you must satisfy Department of Home Affairs that you are a genuine temporary visitor, and you intend to stay in Australia temporarily for tourism purposes and that you have a genuine reason to return to your home country.
- Sufficient Funds to support yourself during your stay in Australia. This means covering expenses for accommodation, food, transportation and other living costs without relying on public funds.
- Good Character is must as if you have a criminal record, your visa could be refused.
- Australian Laws must be complied during your stay.
