Tonnou Ghothane

Principal Lawyer

Tonnou is the managing director and principal lawyer at Ghothane Lawyers.

Tonnou has completed his Bachelor of Laws from Victoria University and Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at College of Law. He is a recipient of Golden Key from International Honor Society for his law degree. Tonnou is member of Law Institute of Victoria.

Tonnou has more than 14 years of experiences in Australian immigration industry. His primary area of practice remains immigration law. He has handled many complex cases at Department and Administrative Appeals Tribunal as well as Federal Circuit Court. He also practices family, business, litigation and property law.

Tonnou is extensively involved in community and social work. His involvement with community in Australia has been since 1997 with oldest Nepali association in Victoria, Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV). He held numerous positions in NAV including joint secretary from 2003-2007. His biggest engagement has been with NRNA Australia which is the largest Nepalese association in
Australia. He held the position of President NRNA Australia between 2017-2019 and contributed to the Nepalese community by institutionalizing NRNA Australia, initiating the establishment of foundation and policy institute, for the first time focusing not only on Nepal but wider Australian community welfare during his tenure.

He is also committed to support youths through sports and has been involved with many cricket, soccer and basketball community teams. As his commitment to giving back to the community, Tonnou undertakes pro bono matters in Napali family law and immigration matters.

As a Napali origin, Tonnou speaks Nepali and Hindi fluently. In his free time, Tonnou continues to contribute to the community through his affiliation with community organizations. He also likes to read books and watch movies to unwind.
